Mpepu-HX Wind Turbine
Description
The Mpepu-HX wind turbine is a helical design vertical axis wind turbine made from fibreglass composite and steel. The turbine blade design has been optimized to perform efficiently at average wind speeds of 7-11m/s, with a rated power output of 2kW. The turbine’s cut-in wind speed is 3m/s, and it features a swept area of 3.8 m2. Its unique spiral drag-based design enables it to harness energy even at relatively low wind speeds, providing an advantage over conventional lift-based turbines.
Innovation Uniqueness
The Mpepu-HX turbine is designed to generate electricity from the drag forces of wind pushing through its helical shape. The helical shape acts like a sail that captures wind and redirects it from one end to the other creating a continuous rotation movement. The large surface area efficiently captures minimal wind speeds and converts them to electricity.
